How can one possibly put our once-in-a-lifetime experience into words? We got tickets to the inauguration with little effort, went to the inauguration with little effort, and enjoyed the heck out of ourselves. Who could ask for a better way to experience one of the pinnacle events of the early 21st century? It couldn't have gone better- it was one of the smoothest travel experiences any of us have ever experienced. Since there is just way too much to tell, we are co-writing a David Letterman style top ten list of our inauguration experience with some photos to go along.
10. Standing in 13 degree weather for over 7 hours with no food, water, toilet paper in the port-a-potties, and little body movement- resulting in dehydration, muscle cramps, and fatigue
9. The crushing crowds due to very unorganized Inauguration planners (thank you Dianne Feinstein)- it is amazing how much more aware of elbows you are when you are pregnant
8. A day of walking around Washington with friends on Monday, seeing the sights, and enjoying the inspiring music from the concert the day before on the loudspeakers up and down the National Mall- like a soundtrack to the monuments
7. Connecting the past with the present by touring the new Lincoln exhibit at the American History Museum
6. Walking through the House of Representatives offices to get our tickets from our Simi Valley representative's office (we even got to pee in the fancy bathrooms)
5. Meeting Representative Elton Galleghly when he came into the office to meet his constituents
4. The top-notch accommodations in Baltimore with the Damewood's and in D.C. with Sandy's friend Holly who lives about ten blocks from the Capital- Sweet!
3. The electric crowd full of people of all backgrounds watching the inauguration with us- dancing, cheering, and shedding tears of joy.
2. Obama's speech- no words needed.
1. Watching the most incredible moment in recent history with our best friends
