A Very Boerem Weekend...

Kevin's parents were out for a visit from June 20th to the 30th. It was a wonderfully relaxing visit because there was no agenda. I know most of you think I can't function without an agenda but I actually manage pretty well.
The first weekend of the visit was a busy one- Kevin was in Atlantic City for a bachelor party and I was at a bridal shower. There was a lot of cook
ing and movie watching- it was very laid back. Instead of going day by day, here are some of the highlights of the visit.
- I got to have dinner with Rick and Marianne, just the three of us, at a great little restaurant in our neighborhood. Great conversation and great food.
- I used my new, huge kitchen to prepare a nice light summer meal for everyone. I didn't burn anything so it went well. We watched Enchanted- I love that movie!
-Paul and Andrea had us over for turkey meatloaf and mashed sweet potatoes. Yummy! We also watched Juno- one of my favorites!
- Rick, Marianne, and Paul went to Philly for a day. I heard it was a great day trip.
- Andrea and I went shopping with Marianne. The shopping was preceded by a trip to Max Brenner. I had heard of this restaurant before but nothing prepares you for the decadence which is their cuisine. It is a chocolate restaurant!  After our chocolate experience we went shopping for shoes and Andrea picked up a very cute pair of yellow heels at a great price. The guys went to The Burger Joint for some burgers and then went to see Indiana Jones.
- Aunt Pat invited us over for an amazing meal of grilled steak and potatoes. It
was fantastic.
- Andrea and I walked all over the city with Rick and Marianne for another fun shopping day. I bought my swimsuit for our Mexican cruise (see right) and then we went to Books of Wonder, which is a super cute children's book shop. I bought A Tree Grows in Brooklyn to add to my summer reading list. We ended our walk with a small restaurant devoted entirely to french fries and various dipping sauces called Pomme Frites . So yummy!
- We spent a whole day in Brooklyn and saw sights from one end to the other. We started at Coney Island where we walked around and went on the Cyclone. I have been on many wooden
rollercoasters but this was the most painful ride I have ever been on. After the first dip my neck made a loud crunching sound and every turn after that was excruciating. I felt like I had just gotten into a major car accident. I had a bit of whip-lash all day the next day. We ended our Coney Island experience with world famous Nathan's hotdogs. Coney Island was followed by a trip to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and then ChipShop- my favorite place for fish and chips.
- The last day of the visit was very laid back. Rick helped us put up a curtain to divide our living space from our bedroom space in our studio. We also figured out how to work our buzzer so we can buzz people in downstairs. We watched Once- one of my all-time favorite movies. Kevin made his "Valentine's Day Dinner" for everyone. It is a filet mignon dinner that he made for me our first married Valentine's Day.
It was a very fun visit. We are lucky to have such wonderful families on both sides.
